Visit the mill of Infersa is like taking a step back in time, retracing the history of the saltpans and of the ancient culture of collecting and processing of salt. The visit, also through an innovative multimedia path, allows you to explore all the features of the mill and to learn the details about the gears work. The mill is the place where you can take guided tours and where you can participate in the thematic tasting "there is SALT and salt".
The mill of Infersa is a real masterpiece of industrial archeology of 1500. It is the centerpiece of the visit to the saltpans and houses a multimedia path and the visitor center. Among the experiences and activities available there are:
Visit the Mill of Infersa, the largest windmill of Saline della Laguna
The visit includes:
- access to the main structure of the building
- description of the production process of the Trapani saltpans by a documentary video (in Italian, English, French and German) and multimedia path
- possibility to visit the working mill (July and August: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4.00 p.m. To 6.00 p.m., weather permitting)
Tasting “ther is SALT and salt”, the experience of taste the salt in a unique and original way
Curious and gourmets will appreciate the thematic tasting which is organized on request inside the mill (or in relation to specific needs in the surrounding outdoor areas). You can taste some unusual varieties of salt produced by our company, pure and flavored, combined with some typical Sicilian products, like fresh bread, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, fresh seasonal fruit, a refreshing lemon juice. During the tasting is scheduled the presentation of the different types of salt and their properties.
The Salt Shop
Selling point of salt pan products and small local craft items such as salt cellars made in the workshops of Sicilian ceramics. There is also an exposition of "Salt Coral", splendid achievements created by Daniela Neri, following the age-old tradition of Trapani corals.
Opening dates autumn-winter: October - january 6th from 9.30 to 15.00 (seasonal closing: from 7 January to 28 February 2018 - opening only on request)
Visiting hours: 09.00 – 20.30 (autumun and winter from 9.30 to 15.00)
Adults Rate: 7,00 eur per person
Children Rate 6-12 years old: 2,50 eur per child (free under 6 years old)
Groups: one free ticket every 10 adults (9 paying – 1 free)
NOTA BENE: This year the mill can not be put into operation due to technical maintenance problems
April, may and september: 6.45 p.m.
June, July and August: 7.30 p.m.
October: 5.45 p.m.
Adults Rate (minimum 10 participants): 20,00 eur per person
Children up to 12 years olg free
PLEASE NOTE: it is possible to organize the tasting, on request, also at different times than those normally planned.
The mill of Infersa
Among the three mills present in Ettore and Infersa saltpans, stands out for its beauty and its size the Infersa Mill, a grinding mill of the '500 placed in the stock house of Infersa. Once used for working the salt and as warehouse for tools, it has an area of over 500 square meters and represents the heart of the visit of Saline della Laguna.

The mill of Infersa, after being carefully restored, was opened to the public and is therefore open almost all year (especially from April to October). The visit, which also provides an interesting multimedia tour, allows get information and details about the culture of salt and the characteristics of the entire protected area of Stagnone.
